We have an exciting site-based role (with occasional travel to key suppliers, UK based) reporting directly to the ICS Package Lead. The Package Manager will be responsibley for the delivery of a highly complex project within a programme of Integrated Control Systems (ICS) works, driving delivery to cost, quality and schedule. The project is within a highly regulated industry.

Costain have been contracted for the design and build of a facility near Reading. The scope of works for this project will include Programme Management, Construction, Building Services (M&E), Instrumentation and Control Systems and various external works.

The Package Integration Manager is to assist the Package Lead in delivering a highly complex programme of Integrated Control Systems (ICS) works, driving delivery to cost, quality and schedule, satisfying legislative, regulatory and company requirements. The process involves issue resolution, as well as solving problems and making value judgements.

The position will have responsibility for assisting in the driving of a dedicated team of Construction, Agents and Engineers, including Supply Chain Partners, to meet a demanding nuclear programme.

What will I be doing?

This site-based role (with occasional travel to key suppliers, UK based) will report directly to the ICS Package Lead and support the delivery of the ICS systems within a new major complex build. The role will also require management of ICS engineering personnel for certain detailed design aspects currently being progressed. Detailed knowledge of Control Systems is not essential, as this responsibility lies with the technical experts within the team whom the Package Manager will lead. A sound knowledge of engineering and technical principles, however, will be required, supported by a strong engineering background, ideally in a technical field (electrical, mechanical, information systems), such that the Package Manager can learn and understand the requirements of the projects under his/her charge. The project is within a highly regulated industry.

General Responsibilities

The Package Manager shall be responsible to the Package Lead for the execution of individual job responsibilities.

  • Support the Package Lead and the staff under their control
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Client and associated personnel
  • Manage and control his/her section of the work according to agreed programmes
  • Be conversant with all drawings, specifications and related information for these works
About you

Qualifications and/or professional memberships
  • HNC/D in Engineering
  • Member of an Engineering Institute (If not Chartered then working towards)
  • Holds or is able to achieve SC clearance
  • Formal Project Management Qualifications (PRINCE2, APMP)
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to convey messages to and influence senior stakeholders
  • Flexibility, able to adapt to changing and conflicting priorities
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise large and complex workload
  • Risk Management
  • Schedule Management
  • Able to chair meetings and drive progress, maintaining audit trail
  • Able to understand complex problems and distil into simple explanations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications - word, excel, project
  • Experienced Project manager with proven track record
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (eg. Defence, Construction, Nuclear, Aviation)
  • Sub-contractor management
  • Experience managing projects to cost, schedule and quality with value in excess of £1M
