JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant to join our busy Press & Publicity team. You'll need to love TV, have a good understanding of print, broadcast, and digital media and be social media savvy. You'll have top notch communication skills in person, on paper and
online.

You'll need to be super organised and happy to get stuck in, and ready to kick off your career
as a TV publicist.

You will get to work as part of Channel 4's consumer press team on some of the most talked about shows on TV, offering administrative support and bringing your ideas and perspective
to the team, whilst also assisting on some major PR campaigns.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Press & Publicity department is responsible for generating and shaping earned press, and media coverage of Channel 4's programmes, content, services and talent. The department proactively publicises Channel 4's reputation, vision, programmes and content across all print press, digital, TV and radio, consumer and trade publications, and with influencers - with a view to driving audiences, its brand and reputation. The department is responsible for communicating the effectiveness of Channel 4's delivery against its public service remit and protecting the reputation of the organisation, its individuals and programming. P&P handles all media requests for programme information, talent and executive interviews, clips and pictures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To provide efficient administrative support to the press and publicity team as required - reporting to a Group Publicity Manager
  • To deal with general enquiries from journalists quickly and efficiently via phone, email and face to face
  • To work as a team with the other press assistants to:
  • Source and provide weekly programme press information, billings and preview material for journalists
  • Save media cuttings and create and circulate PR updates
  • Assist the corporate PR team in compiling monthly reports
  • Upload press releases and information to the Digital Press Centre
  • Distribute press releases to targeted lists and field enquiries
  • To support the consumer PR team in creatively promoting content and programmes - coming up with ideas and helping to implement them as part of a targeted publicity strategy
  • To write press releases that stand out and really communicate the messages you want to get across
  • To assist at press launches, screenings and press events - managing guest lists and looking after talent
  • To use your passion for social and digital media to enhance PR campaigns and develop contacts with influencers
  • To deal with production companies, commissioning editors and other stakeholders - representing Channel 4 in a positive way
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • A passion for the media - print, broadcast, digital and social - and TV
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Press & Publicity Assistant role
  • An interest in working for Channel 4 and an understanding of its vision, objectives and brand values
  • Relevant experience in a busy office environment
  • Experience using the full MS Office suite and knowledge of creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Experience using and a good understanding of social media platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • A keen attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work both as part of a close-knit team and independently
  • The ability to cope in a busy environment and be able to prioritise and manage several tasks at once
  • Experience of working within a creative team
  • Experience of working in Journalism, Broadcast Media, PR, Social Media, Digital, Influencer PR
  • A long-term desire to make it in PR
  • Flexibility, initiative, patience, perseverance and commitment
