JOB PURPOSE
We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and engaged assistant to join our busy Press & Publicity team. Someone who loves TV, is social and digital
media savvy, has top notch communication skills – both in person, on paper and online - someone who is organised and happy to get stuck in, and who is
hungry to kick off their career as a TV publicist.

You will get to work as part of Channel 4’s consumer press team on some of the most talked about shows on TV, offering administrative and creative support
whilst learning the ropes.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Press & Publicity team is responsible for promoting and defending all aspects of Channel 4, in all dealings with the external media, especially the
press and influencers.

The goals of the Press & Publicity department are:
• To enhance perceptions of Channel 4’s reputation by positively promoting its vision, remit, channels, services, programmes, strategies, initiatives,
performance and people
• To increase viewing to Channel 4’s channels, programmes and services
• To stimulate debate about Channel 4’s programmes and the subject matter of those programmes
• To protect Channel 4’s reputation by defending its vision, remit, channels, services, programmes, strategies, initiatives, performance and people

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• To provide efficient administrative support to the press and publicity team – reporting to a Group Publicity Manager
• To deal with general enquiries from journalists via phone, email and face to face
• To work as a team with the other press assistants to:
1. Source and provide weekly programme press information and preview material for journalists
2. Save media cuttings and create PR updates
3. Assist the corporate PR team in compiling monthly reports
4. Upload press releases and information to the Digital Press Centre and issue a daily press alert to journalists
• To support the consumer PR team in creatively promoting content and programmes – coming up with ideas and helping to implement them as part of a
targeted publicity strategy
• To assist at press launches, screenings and press events – managing guest lists and looking after talent
• To use your passion for social and digital media to enhance PR campaigns and develop contacts with influencers
• To deal with production companies, commissioning editors and other stakeholders – representing Channel 4 in a positive way

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
• A passion for the media and TV
• An interest in working for Channel 4 and an understanding of its vision, objectives and brand values
• Relevant experience in a busy office environment
• Experience using the full MS Office suite
• Experience using and a good understanding of social media platforms
• Excellent written and verbal communications
• Strong organisational and practical skills
• A keen attitude and a willingness to learn
• Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
• Ability to work both as part of a close-knit team and independently
• The ability to cope in a busy environment and be able to prioritise and manage several tasks at once
Desirable
• Experience of working within a creative team
• Experience of working in Broadcast Media, PR, Social Media, Digital, Influencer PR
• A long-term desire to make it in PR
• Flexibility, initiative, patience, perseverance and commitment
