Principal Policy Officer- Infrastructure
Do you have a passion for London and want to help shape its future development and enabling infrastructure? Do you have strong policy skills and an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to progress change? If so, the GLA’s Infrastructure Team wants to hear from you.
This role provides you with a chance to work on a wide range of initiatives supporting the Mayor of London’s infrastructure agenda. These include a renewed focus on ensuring the resilience of London’s infrastructure systems and promoting decarbonisation in the sector to achieve the Mayor’s aim for London to be a net zero carbon city by 2050. You will also support ongoing work to improve our understanding of London’s strategic infrastructure requirements to support growth.
The team you will join is high-performing, benefiting from strong working relationships across the GLA and the wider sector through the Mayor’s Infrastructure Group – a group for which you will shape and drive the work programme.
Key outputs of the team in recent years have included developing London’s first infrastructure plan, leading on the pioneering London Infrastructure Mapping Application, and establishing an Infrastructure Coordination Team, a major new intervention led by the Mayor designed to support planning and delivery of London’s infrastructure. These outputs all resulted from initial policy ideas, reflective of the potential change you can influence in this exciting role.
In addition to working on direct policy projects, you will also have a chance to implement ideas at the local scale, in partnership with boroughs, utilities and developers.
To meet the requirements of the role you will need to be well organised and have demonstrated experience developing policy, managing projects and managing a team. You will also have strong research, problem solving and analytical skills, an ability to communicate effectively, and be comfortable working with a diverse range of people.
We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. You may have studied or have work experience in areas such as public policy, economics, town planning, engineering or other related areas. The key in your application is to demonstrate how your experience and skills are relevant and/or transferrable to the position.
London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.
In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
