Building on this success we have an ambitious growth strategy for electrical and renewables, specifically targeting the power transmission and distribution sectors, which have annual addressable market circa £350 million. To support this, we are looking to recruit a Principal Power Systems EngineerConsultant, to lead this areawork in the energy sector of the business.

What will I be doing?

This is a strategic position, leading the technical function, and providing support to business development opportunities in various industry sectors, public and private. The individual is expected to have a strong technical background, extensive business relationships, be self-motivated and focussed to deliver results with no supervision. Principal requirements include:
  • Client facing technical specialist for all aspects of power transmission and distribution
  • Identifying key areas for pursuing business opportunities
  • Develop opportunity strategy and support bid/no bid decision making
  • Build strong relationships with prospective clients, third party consultants/organisations and internal stakeholders
  • Develop value propositions and offer solutions to client's challenges
  • Work with clients on a consultative basis to develop and shape solutions and/or act as a clients' engineer
  • Lead thought leadership with presentations to potential clients, attendance / presentations at industry technical and business forums, and other business development activities
  • Establish and expand internal technical capability to self-deliver major work scopes
  • Technical management of third party organisations where there is extensive or specialised scope
  • Provide high level cost estimates for competitive bids
  • Undertake engineering and design tasks
About you

The applicant must have previously performed detailed technical tasks for a substantial period of time, experienced in delivering investment and innovation projects with a strong focus on substation design. The individual would have held a number of positions and fully understands operational processes within DNO/TNO organisations. Demonstrable skills and experience must include:
  • Extensive design experience in EHV power systems from 33 kV to 400 kV
  • In depth understanding of power system equipment; GIS, hybrid, air and oil insulating mediums
  • Selection and specification of equipment and systems including automation and control
  • Develop power system single line diagrams and protection diagrams
  • Undertake power system calculations, have a good understanding of power system analysis and associated software packages
  • Substation layouts from concept through to detailed design
  • Preparation of technical reports for feasibility/concept, FEED and detailed design
  • Preparation of documentation to support planning and consenting/EIA
  • Sound understanding of industry technical standards, codes of practice, regulatory framework and EHS requirements
  • Planning, estimating and managing resource
  • Excellent communication skills; written and oral at all levels
  • A degree in power engineering, a chartered electrical engineer and a member of the IET
The position provides an ideal opportunity for an ambitious individual aspiring to excel in their career. The successful candidate will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the E, C & I Discipline Manager and will be working with senior management and the technical team within the energy sector.
