Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class AR/VR hardware and software. With global departments dedicated to AR/VR research, computer vision, haptics, social interaction, and more, Facebook Reality Labs is committed to driving the state of the art forward through relentless innovation. AR/VR's potential to change the world is immense-and we're just getting started. As a Process Modeling and Simulation Engineer at Facebook, you will take a critical role in developing next generation AR Systems. You will become part of a simulation team exploring new concepts through numerical modeling and fast feedback from semiconductor processing. You will be responsible for building models that support various types of processing activities. The individual filling this position is expected to work independently and lead projects, as well as within teams interfacing with other engineers, technicians and/or outside vendors to complete all necessary tasks. In particular, the role entails close collaboration with LED processing groups as well as test and integration to help establish, validate and improve the semiconductor processing methods. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype, and can envision how a prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product. Our ideal candidate has a strong simulation and modelling background with experience and good understanding of semiconductor processing and process integration for consumer technology products.

Process Modelling & Simulation Engineer Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve models for the semiconductor process simulation build on commercial software packages.

  • Work in close collaboration with process and test engineers to validate the derived models. Propose experiments to verify process improvements suggested by simulation results.

  • Work in close collaboration with vendors of simulation tool kits to adapt their solutions towards our needs.

  • Drive the general adoption of process simulation for areas where it is not yet used to support the reduction of development cycles and increase development speed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3+ years of experience with semiconductor processes and integration (deposition, etching, growth, CMP, lithography, bonding etc.).

  • 3+ years of experience with the simulation and modelling using commercial software (e.g. ANSYS, COMSOL) and/or open-source programming.

  • Familiar with the IC masking layout.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience with semiconductor processes and integration (deposition, etching, growth, CMP, lithography, bonding etc.) and specialized simulation packages (i.e. Coventor).

  • Familiar with III-V processing (LED technology a plus).

  • Optics experience, including experience with lens design.

  • Familiar with optoelectronics device design and fabrication.
