What's the role about?

The John Lewis Partnership is looking for a Procurement Manager to join its dedicated team of Procurement specialists.

Within the Partnership, the role of the Procurement Manager is to identify opportunities and execute Procurement sourcing activities to deliver value and mitigate risk across the business.

This role will see you working on a wide range of engagements, across head office and retail operations, experience in the following areas is considered essential:-
  • Consumable items
  • Contact Centres
  • Merchant Card Services
A key requirement for the role is experience of working in a fast-paced retail environment and one's knowledge of industry-related procedures, as well as pain points, will be challenged on a daily basis.

Working with a broad set of stakeholders you will actively challenge how the business allocates costs, commits spend, and manages third parties.

The ability to form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as banks, card companies, and suppliers, is vital to the success of the role.

Another aspect of the role is the leading of a highly engaged and committed team of 4 Partners, whose ultimate goal is the delivery of best value through Procurement, sourcing, and negotiation.

What you will do as a Procurement manager

  • Deliver excellent sourcing category management and supplier management.
  • Apply business acumen, commercial and Procurement expertise
  • Lead on negotiations in the assigned category
  • Build and manage strong relationships both internally and externally
  • Represent the Partnership externally in supplier interactions and negotiations
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of risk analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation
What you'll have

You must have prior experience in one of the following areas:
  • Card Acquiring services
  • Retail Consumables
  • Customer Contact centres
Considerable experience of Procurement at a senior level within a retail environment is essential.

Broad understanding of Procurement strategy, policy, and process.

Good experience of contract law and drafting agreements.

Solid understanding of negotiation principles and best practices.

A strong people management background with experience in mentoring and developing team members.

Excellent communication and influencing skills.

What else could you bring?

Ability to challenge stakeholders, building and managing strong relationships both internally and externally to maximise delivery of the Procurement GNFR agenda.

Experience in commercial negotiation and the ability to take the lead on negotiations
