Within our Product and Technology Division, “FT Core” sits as a department designing and building products that support both the B2C and B2B operations of FT.com as well as other parts of the wider Financial Times organisation.
FT Core is also the Product and Technology Group leading on the FT’s Acquire mission, focused on growing our subscription base by acquiring and activating customers.
As a Product Manager, Acquisition you will be responsible for the development of products and services in the Acquire mission, focused on one of its three strategic themes - funnel optimisation. Working closely with your peers and counterparts in Product Management, Engineering, User Research, Product Design, Marketing, and Analytics you will prepare and run A/B tests that will help us better understand our audience. You will also develop hypotheses and validate them via a discovery process to ensure we only build what is worth building. You will work closely with a range of stakeholders across B2C, B2B, Data Analytics, and Editorial. You will communicate regularly and clearly ideas, success criteria and metrics, as well as current statuses of projects, collaborating closely with delivery leads, engineering leadership and business analysts to do so.
We expect that you are a product manager with understanding of customer-centered design and data driven decision making. You should have an interest and experience in customer acquisition and retention, as well as in areas like subscriptions and payments, access models, content and metadata, and be data driven in your decision making and approach. You should feel at ease with and be able to communicate clearly with engineers, designers, and other product managers, and effectively translate the requirements between them to ensure everyone is on the same page. You can quickly and confidently make decisions when it’s called for and use your exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) to develop healthy relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and fields.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
In this role you will…..
Be the voice of the customer, developing an in depth understanding of the way they interact with our products and services to drive acquisition and activation
Work in collaboration with the Director of Product, team mates, and stakeholders to define a longer term vision of the area you are responsible for that aligns with the company’s strategic direction and missions
Work with stakeholders and team mates to define and run A/B tests that help us understand better our audience
Lead the prioritisation of the product backlog in your remit, which will start from opportunities to validate through discovery and will include the specific features the team ultimately deliver
Define, track and analyse success metrics while feeding back outcomes into the product process
Take decisions based on data
Collaborate with stakeholders around the business
Act as a product owner, working closely with the technology team to deliver the agreed roadmap
Coordinate developments undertaken by third parties
Track and analyse competitors while feeding industry ‘best practice’ into the product development process.
You must be execution focussed and results driven, easily converse with colleagues at all levels of the organisation, actively engage in technical discussions, and understand high level technical architecture.
Product management experience with a track record of managing successful products using cutting-edge technologies, working across major projects in an enterprise environment, dealing with third parties and managing multiple stakeholders
Experience with products focused on customer acquisition
Knowledge of the entire product lifecycle from insights/analysis, roadmap development, UX, UI and Data driven approaches
Proven record of delivering products through collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams
Experience with producing strong business justifications
Have a proven track record of defining and improving key business metrics
Ability to work independently and be proactive
Excellent English written and oral communication skills, a natural evangelist
Developed and proven influencing and negotiation skills
Confident leading meetings and workshops
Experience working in an Agile environment including as a product owner
Experience and knowledge of the media industry and of how large media companies operate
