Job Title: Programmatic & VOD Ad Tech Specialist
Reports to: Ad Tech Leader
Department: Sales Operations
Location: London

The Sales Operations team is responsible for the creation and delivery of maximum revenue across all delivery methods of viewing across C4’s Sales portfolio.

The team is required to deliver exceptional levels of service to Sales and our customers, in addition to conceiving and executing innovative methods of
creating value through systems, working practices and new trading opportunities.

The Ad tech team is responsible for the management and delivery of the ad systems and technical ad deployments across our Linear and VOD portfolio of
products, working closely with Sales, IT, Operations and Business Intelligence teams.

Channel 4 is an innovative broadcaster that relies on its technical solutions to provide cutting edge products to advertisers. The continued convergence
of its sales products and overlapping systems means C4 need to continue to innovate and adjust its technical products to continue to lead the market in the
VOD ad products. After significant success 4Sales now requires the growth of the product and platform offering to enable the continued expectations of our
partners and customers to be fulfilled.

This role’s primary responsibility is to develop, maintain and optimise technical ad integrations and systems optimisations across our diverse portfolio
of Programmatic and VOD platforms and Ad products. This will include the responsibility of thought leadership and project planning into highly complex
future-facing initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders, covering a wide range of initiatives across the VOD and Programmatic landscape.
By wearing many hats ranging from detailed technical troubleshooting to workflow optimisations and project planning, this role will be highly visible and
critical to the success of all existing and new Digital initiatives.

Main KPIs of this role include:
• Speed and efficiency of integration for highly complex Programmatic and VOD ad products
• Uptime and efficiency of internal and external systems and their configurations
• Resolution methods and time for ad-hoc technical delivery issues
• Relationship management with Programmatic and VOD vendors, including FreeWheel, DSPs, YoSpace, and Partner Broadcasters
• Successful deployment of initiatives spanning involvement of C4 Sales, Product, Operations and Development teams
• Creation and enforcement of efficient technical and operational workflows for Programmatic and VOD operations

• Ensuring optimal setup and operational use of FreeWheel Ad Server and SSP products, including regular review or processes and workflows to assess
• Supporting the testing and rollout of new VOD ad products and Programmatic technology including SSPs and DSPs
• Optimising and driving efficiency gains through copy workflow and campaign set up processes using existing and new techniques
• Maintaining optimal transcoding and ad creative workflow processes and liaising with C4 Engineering and Product teams to ensure we are enabling the
best possible user experience for our viewers
• Troubleshooting ad delivery and playout issues for Programmatic Deals and VOD campaigns across all platforms
• Serving as the internal product subject matter expert on all things Programmatic and VOD
• Owning and influencing vendor technology roadmaps in line with 4Sales business requirements
• Working closely with C4 Product Owners to ensure all requirements are briefed and ranked appropriately on various backlogs and programmes of work
• Devising and executing integrations plans with ad serving/SSP and delivery vendors, Broadcast partners, and DSPs
• Defining and enforcing best practice guidelines for C4 delivery teams, Partner development teams and DSPs
• Documenting existing and future technology setup and workflows as required
• Working closely with the wider Ad Tech team to ensure all requirements are briefed and ranked appropriately on various backlogs and programmes of work
• Providing regular clear updates and escalations across a wide range of VOD projects

• Exceptional level of understanding of Programmatic technical workflows and auction mechanics, including OpenRTB standards and the roles of the major
programmatic tech solutions
• Detailed understanding of the technical aspects of online including ad serving/delivery, programmatic models and technologies, TV convergence and
cross-platform advertising format innovations (ie iVods), with demonstrable skill in outlining technical configurations and industry-standard approaches
• Strong understanding of Video ad serving Industry Standards and methods of ad delivery including VAST, VPAID, Server Side Ad Insertion, SCTE STB
• Proven ability to design and manage highly complex technical integrations including communication across multiple technical solution providers and
key stakeholders
• Good knowledge of video file formats and relevant platform support with an exceptional understanding of CDN configuration techniques and advanced
transcode and delivery methodologies
• Strong ability to work effectively with external and internal support teams to manage solutions through various teams and levels to resolution
• Exceptional debugging skills using HTTP proxy tools and vendor-provided debugging tools as well as ability to interpret proxy logs via Charles,
Fiddler & Wireshark
• Good understanding of XML/JS/CSS/SQL(MySQL) as well as APIs
• Strong data analysis capabilities and familiarity with data manipulation and delivery methodologies for troubleshooting and delivery analysis
• Ability to prioritise a large program of work according to various critical business and technical factors
• Highly detailed and effective communication skills, including the ability to describe complex technical workflows to all level of the C4 Sales
• Ability to create and maintain up-to-date documentation and best practice guides for end users, Development teams and external technology suppliers


Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
• The role identifies operational needs and has full autonomy to adapt team processes and enable new technologies to implement process improvements
• This role is expected to be autonomous and only seek input for major questions and escalations
• This role is expected to be highly organised and able to provide detailed project overviews to multiple management layers

Managing Resources
• Though this role has no direct reports, this role is expected to utilise resource management and leadership skills to ensure a successful delivery
of the Programmatic and VOD program of work across the company
• This role will provide support, documentation and training to Campaign Operations teams to ensure they have a detailed understanding of the technology
and functional underpinnings of Programmatic and VOD ad serving and infrastructure, configuration and operational workflows

Relationship Management
• This role will work closely with external suppliers including Freewheel, DSPs, YoSpace, Innovid and others, and will be expected to maintain a high
level of support and professionalism with all stakeholders
• The jobholder will maintain effective relationships with internal departments such as Sales, Campaign Operations and Product to design, create and
bring to market new Programmatic and VOD ad products and technology solutions

• The role will be expected to employ flexible, pragmatic and tenacious approaches to problem-solving and issue resolution across the complex digital
• Strong project management and delivery planning skills will be required to effectively and efficiently deliver on a wide range of integration projects
• Complex negotiation skills will be essential to resolve any conflict between stakeholders whilst driving innovation and change
