About the opportunity

Department Description

FIL General Counsel Technology is responsible for providing IT solutions to the Risk, Compliance, Legal, Audit and Tax functions. These are global functions comprised of approximately 400 employees based in 26 countries. General Counsel Technology partners with its business stakeholders to identify their requirements and develop/implement technology solutions. This includes on-premise, SaaS and AWS solutions, both in-house built and vendor provided. There is a strong focus on data analytics, workflow and automation tools to bring greater efficiencies to these functions. Together with this there is continued move towards greater use of Agile and DevOps practices. The GC Technology team itself consists of approximately 30 people based in both the UK and India.

Job Description

The Project Manager role has end-to-end responsibility for delivering a broad range of technology solutions for General Counsel stakeholders globally.

As part of the wider FIL initiative of migrating / creating it's data ecosystem on Cloud, the role involves leading the onboarding of General Counsel Datasets on Snowflake, and supporting business needs and value generation from these datasets.

The role includes end-to-end project management, defining the business case, build-vs-buy decision making, strategic planning, managing supplier relationships (product vendors and consulting partners), running working group and steering committee forums, project reporting, budget management and leading global delivery teams. The role will require owning the relationships and working closely with General Counsel business stakeholders globally and will have specific focus on our "Transformation" and "Central" portfolio's both with varied size and complexity of projects, therefore experience managing multiple projects is key.

The role will also involve quickly understanding a wide range of disparate business processes across these functions, to identify areas for improvement and to scope new initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Management

  • Manage and own the full project life cycle: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for several initiatives simultaneously.
  • Develop and manage all aspects of project engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and issues.
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues.
  • Work creatively in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Provide on-site leadership for project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals.
  • Run project working group and steering committee forums.
  • Manage the projects within the change and risk frameworks of Fidelity.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and technology partners at different levels.
  • Work collaboratively with 3rd party suppliers, architects, UX designers, product owners and delivery teams.

  • Deploy Agile delivery methods, extreme programming, elastic infra/Cloud preference, micro-services enabled APIs and 12-factor app principles, working in a largely DevOps culture, to deliver great products
  • Work towards achieving a relatively constant and predictable velocity and frequent smaller releases to deliver expected value. Force deliberate conversations to constantly balance the agility vs technical debt trade-offs.
  • Exercise end-to-end ownership of the products - starting from ideation till expiry, using the DevOps model with as less hand offs as possible
  • Deliver features with high test automation and ensure deployments into production on demand and independent of interfacing products
  • Work collaboratively with other product/program managers and keep business stakeholders sufficiently involved during delivery of features.
  • Develop real time and shared information delivery mechanisms like build radiators, dashboards and health metrics. Run product working groups and steering committees and influence Investment decisions based on current and future direction.
  • Monitor the delivery metrics to spot trends and take appropriate actions in the spirit of relentless pursuit of quality


  • Create a product team comprising of poly-skilled people with ability to work across different technology stacks
  • Foster a culture whereby team members are empowered to make decisions in the best interest of the product and willingly take high personal accountability for their decisions & actions
  • Guide the team such that they embrace the constructs of a high-performing, self-organising team - ensuring team goals take precedence over individual goals
  • Facilitate intelligent risk taking and use every mistake as a team learning opportunity. Encourage people to think out of the box and challenge norms smartly without diluting quality and controls in the production environment
  • Continuously communicate within the team to ensure clear visibility and understanding of their individual roles and growth aspirations. Connect them with other appropriate opportunities within the team, department or the wider organisation.

Experience and Qualifications

Technical Skills
  • Strong project management skills with previous experience of managing multiple projects and across disparate teams.
  • Proven experience in project management methodologies, with focus on Agile/SCRUM and DevOps.
  • Experience in delivering Data Analytics, Workflow and/or Automation initiatives.
  • Ability to think from a customer viewpoint and provide a high level of service to internal clients
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to address different audiences with the right level of complexity and refinement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Foster, develop & maintain working relationships with business stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Ability to work at a strategic and tactical level.
