Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. You may also be required to work at any other location, within reasonable travelling distance of your permanent home address, in line with the provisions set out in your contract of employment.

PHE Screening

The PHE Screening division, part of the PHE Health Improvement Directorate, leads the NHS Screening Programmes. These programmes identify apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk or a disease or condition, enabling earlier treatment and better-informed decisions. They are implemented on the advice of the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC), which oversees screening policy in all 4 nations, and works with the different implementation bodies to support delivery.

Project Support Officer

This post is a fixed term opportunity for 6 months. The post holder will provide high quality Project Support for specific projects relating to the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programmes (ANNB), to help ensure the quality and delivery of the programmes at a national level. The post-holder will provide specific support for a special project in the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme.

As Project Support Officer, the responsibilities will include support for the coordination of key programmes of work, including organising meetings, preparing paperwork, monitoring delivery, recording risks and facilitating the achievement of objectives in conjunction with the Screening Programme and the Project Management team.

The role requires exceptional organisation, information management and multitasking skills. Excellent attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills, and skills for managing relationships with a range of different stakeholders are essential. The ability to take minutes for complex meetings is a must.

The post is located at our London office (Wellington House), with regular contact with teams in other parts of the country. Working arrangements will however be in place to meet the current Government restrictions in response to Covid-19.

Public Health England and many of its employees will be in scope for transition to new organisations in Spring 2021.
