Given the nature of the work of PHE, as a Category 1 department, you may be required in an emergency, if deemed a necessity, to redeploy to another role at short notice. On 18 August 2020, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care announced plans to establish the National Institute for Health Protection and consult on the best future options for strengthening health improvement and other public health functions in the wider system. Public Health England and many of its employees will be in scope for transition to new organisations in Spring 2021. Any new or current employees working for Public Health England during this time, will receive appropriate communications and consultation prior to any formal transfer taking place. Employees who compulsorily transfer to successor bodies will remain on their existing contractual terms and conditions and this applies both to current employees and those recruited during the transition. PHE Centres have a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with local authorities, local resilience fora, NHS commissioners and the providers of public health services from the public, third and independent sector to support and influence the delivery of improved outcomes for the public's health.

The East of England Health and Wellbeing team have an exciting opportunity to work as part of the local centre PHE team for a period of 12 months. The health and wellbeing support officer is responsible for supporting the smooth running of health and wellbeing programmes and projects, which are designed to support local government and health and care partners to improve the health of their populations. This post holder will be expected to work flexibly, independently, collaboratively and in an integrated way within PHE and with partner organisations. There will be opportunities to be involved in a range of policy areas such as children and young people, tobacco control, alcohol and drugs, obesity and physical activity, cardiovascular risk reduction, mental health and sexual health and with a focus on health inequalities and impacts of Covid-19.

This is an ideal post to gain broad understanding and experience in health and wellbeing aspects of public health. The successful candidate will be encouraged to undertake learning and development opportunities offered by PHE.
