Channel 4 is looking for an experienced PR Manager to work on Current Affairs and Factual programming.


The Press & Publicity department is responsible for generating and shaping earned media coverage and driving buzz around Channel 4's programmes, content, vision, services and talent. The department proactively publicises Channel 4's programmes and content across all newspapers, digital, TV and radio, magazines, trade publications, podcasts and with influencers - with a view to driving audiences and amplifying its brand and reputation. The department is responsible for communicating the effectiveness of Channel 4's delivery against its public service remit and protecting the reputation of the organisation, its individuals and programming. P&P handles all media requests for programme information, talent and executive interviews, clips and pictures.


The role of Publicity Manager is to devise, implement and manage creative, targeted, noisy publicity campaigns that generate conversation and drive audience viewing to Channel 4's programmes and content as well as effectively communicating its unique remit and brand values. This role will manage campaigns for range of programmes, with particular focus on promoting current affairs and factual output and content as well as effectively communicating its unique remit and brand values. The Publicity Manager will work as part of the factual press team overseen by Head of Content and Programme PR. They will have the opportunity to work across multiple programming genres and with different members of the department.

  • Devise, implement and manage creative publicity strategies and targeted campaigns for programmes and content across a range of genres on Channel 4
  • Work closely with the Group Publicity Manager, Factual, to ensure proactive PR support for assigned priority programmes
  • Identify and manage potential press issues and PR risk - agreeing appropriate course of action with GPM and stakeholders (incl commissioning and legal)
  • Manage relationships with C4 commissioning executives, independent production company executives, agents, personal publicists and talent
  • Arrange and manage press events, screenings, talent junkets, set/location visits
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all external media- including national print press, broadcast and digital media, and influencers - and forging new contacts as appropriate to the needs of a campaign
  • Write and create all press materials - incl press releases, press information/billings, press packs and clips to deadline
  • Provide and present PR updates and evaluation reports for priority campaigns
  • Work closely and in conjunction with Channel 4 Pictures, Marketing and Social to realise integrated promotional campaigns
  • Collaborate with and maintain regular contact with the Content & Programmes PR team and wider Press & Publicity dept to ensure that publicity efforts are aligned across Channel 4 and all platforms
  • Mentor and partner with publicists and publicity assistants to share skills and best practise
Technical & Professional Skills
  • A strong interest in current affairs and documentaries
  • Proven record of proactive publicity work on major consumer PR campaigns - does not need to be in TV, but experience of national press and tabloids is essential
  • Proven experience of digital and influencer PR
  • Experience of managing issues and crises
  • Ability to spot news lines and adapt for target media
  • Flexible approach and ability to adapt style to work on a range of programmes and content
  • Excellent personal and written communication skills
  • Excellent written skills and demonstrable ability to identify news lines and manage issues.
  • Proven proactive publicity work in securing news and features coverage in national media-broadsheets, tabloids and online.
  • Experience of working in a busy press office and crisis or hostile comms environment
Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
  • Proven record of writing press lines and managing press enquiries to deadline
Managing Resources
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering creative PR campaigns with limited budget
Relationship Management
  • Confident briefing senior colleagues
  • Excellent relevant contacts across a range of national media and digital
  • Ability to develop and manage new relationships with press contacts in the Nations and Regions

  • Proven record of managing press issues
