The Role / Position Overview

Money-Media, a fast growing division of the FT, is an online media firm which provides news and intelligence for specialized businesses through their extensive suite of products.

FundFire, a Money-Media publication, is seeking a reporter to cover university endowments, charitable foundations and investment consultants.

Many universities and charitable foundations are not particularly press-friendly when it comes to talking about their investments. We need a reporter with a proven track record of breaking down barriers and developing sources in an opaque industry to find news that would otherwise go unreported. The ideal candidate for this job will also be able to find scoops and produce in-depth, analytical pieces using public records, data and whatever other information they may find.

In addition to covering foundations and endowments, this reporter will cover some of the most influential institutional investment companies in the world. Investment consultants act as gatekeepers for trillions of dollars in assets, guiding the world’s largest investors on how to invest their money. The consulting industry is in flux, however, as revenue pressures are pushing some of these companies to consolidate or sell their businesses to larger financial conglomerates. We need a reporter who can stay on top of what these companies are instructing institutional investors to do with their money, as well as what they’re doing to keep their own heads above water.

FundFire’s 100,000-strong readership includes top executives from the U.S. institutional and high-net-worth investment management industry, including the investment managers that manage and market institutional investment products, the investment offices of wealth managers, investment consultants, defined benefit pension funds, university endowments, nonprofits and foundations, as well as financial advisors.

Prior experience covering finance is not required for this job.

Qualifications/Attributes

  • At least two years’ experience working as a journalist, preferably on a daily deadline. We are open to all levels of experience above that point.
  • A track record of working successfully as part of a team
  • Strong ability to generate and pitch ideas
  • A self-motivated, detail-oriented, inquisitive individual who works constantly to improve their skills
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel
