Job Introduction
EssexLive is the largest and most-read digital news platform in the county. The team is obsessed with first-class digital storytelling, be that a long-form investigative feature, a story shouting from the rooftops about how great Essex is (because it's amazing, right?), a Facebook Live or running a breaking news blog from the scene of an ongoing incident. We know EssexLive is the go-to destination for regional news in the country because our readers tell us so, and we take the responsibility this brings us very seriously. Our reporters cover everything from the most serious court cases to the latest drama from TOWIE - no two days are the same and there's plenty to get your teeth stuck into.

We are on the lookout for a multimedia reporter to join our team. We're looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content. You'll be enthusiastic, energetic and be willing to try new things to reach our ever-growing audience.

This is a home based opportunity however due to the nature of the position the successful candidate will need to live in Essex.

As part of our ambitious growth plans, we are looking for experienced Live Reporters to join us in finding and reporting on the issues which matter most to readers in the South East Region. As well as covering breaking news, you will deliver exclusive off-diary stories written in a way that ensures as many people as possible see and respond to our work, helping us to have a positive impact on the communities we serve. You'll have a proven track record of original stories, the ability to work at a fast pace and enthusiasm for helping to launch a brand new digital news title that's all about the South East.

We are looking for candidates with excellent storytelling techniques, superb social media skills and a deep understanding of how to make content engaging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Find and tell stories about communities that engages as many readers as possible, and stories that will be of interest to a local audience
  • Be confident in breaking news scenarios
  • Build communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and engaged with readers about those stories
  • Tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, article format, video, audio and pictures
  • Ensure every piece of content is thoroughly researched and balanced prior to publication, in accordance with the Editor's Code of practice
  • Act up or cover in other roles as and when required by the business
  • Uphold Reach's policy around diversity and inclusion and work to ensure our values around non-discrimination are upheld in everything we publish


The Ideal Candidate
  • Digital publishing skills - working a CMS, shooting video, taking pictures
  • An NCTJ qualification, including 100wpm shorthand
  • Accomplished live blogger would be an advantage
  • Social media skills - following on social media, track record of building communities on social media
  • Passion for digital storytelling
