HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services.

Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) are delivering the Enabling Works Contract (EWC) programme of works for HS2, across the Southern area, to make way for the main civil and station build contracts. The scope of the EWC South includes demolition, utilities diversions, highways, archaeology, and ecology works over 4 years, with an estimated final value in excess of £300m. You will be directly involved in the delivery of the programme of circa 60 individual projects and will help contribute to skills and employment in the local community, leaving a positive legacy.

What will I be doing?

This role will lead the requirements development and management for the technical design and associated systems and provide support to progressive assurance activities that will ultimately demonstrate to HS2 our compliance to the CSJV scope of work.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The successful candidate will report to the Systems Engineering & Assurance Manager and will have the following day to day duties:

  • Deliver high quality functional/non\u2010functional requirements and associated verification / validation;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of requirements specific to a work package and provide insight into the context and rationale of the requirement;
  • Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis, and/or viewpoints;
  • Write requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely;
  • Decompose from higher level requirements down to an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those must base their work on the requirements;
  • Lead requirements analysis, verification and validation, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, applicable, feasible, unambiguous, verifiable and that they conform to standards;
  • Manage requirements traceability information and track requirements status throughout the project;
  • Identify requirements errors and defects, and write requirements defect identification and notification reports;
  • Establish and implement effective requirements practices, including use and continuous improvement of requirements processes;
  • Support the development of the CSJV requirements engineering policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Provide training on requirements development and management to the CSJV team and suppliers to ensure appropriate practices are followed for project success;

About you

Essential skills

  • Qualified with a relevant technical degree;
  • Proven track record and a solid understanding of requirements elicitation, analysis, specification, verification, validation and management practices and the ability to apply them in practice; familiarity with requirements engineering books and resources;
  • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high level information into details, abstract up from low level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements;
  • Facilitation skills, able to talk with individuals and groups in one to one situations or workshops about their needs and ask the right questions to surface essential requirements information:
  • Proven communication skills including:
    • Written - reports, papers, reports, papers and verbally
    • Verbal - able to negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project
stakeholders (such as customers, engineering and management);
  • Demonstrable organisational skills, including the ability to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to cope with rapidly changing information.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with customers, engineers and management;
  • Ability to plan and organise your own workload to ensure on time completion;
  • Ability to work with large data sets;
  • Tenacity to obtain information;
  • IT literate with the ability to use and integrate Microsoft Office packages - word, excel;
  • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, attention to detail.
