This is an exciting Risk Coordinator opportunity working for our EDF Framework in Barnwood, Gloucester.

Costain helps to improve people's lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK's energy, water and transportation infrastructures.

Costain supports Energy Energy Generation to maximise the lifespan of its eight UK nuclear power stations and prepare for defuelling and decommissioning. Costain's role is to provide project controls and commercial managed services to portfolios and programmes of work across all of EDF's eight UK nuclear power stations. As part of this work Costain will develop people capability in core project control skills and provide specialist support to EDFs Central Technical Organisation to improve project performance and deliver cost efficiencies.
What will I be doing?

As a Risk Coordinator you will be responsible for monitoring and reporting the risks, issues and mitigations associated with large and/or complex projects reporting to the Estimating and Risk Group Head. Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
  • Identifying the risk exposure facing the project or projects responsible for.
  • Understanding the opportunities as well as the threats facing the project, and report these to the Project manager as required.
  • Prioritising risks according to impact and probability of occurrence.
  • Applying qualitative and quantitative risk techniques that enable the effective identification, evaluation and mitigation of risk(s).
  • Supporting the Project Manager in developing a risk strategy and plan that supports project delivery of which the risk register must be a part.
  • Establishing, maintaining and regularly reviewing the project risk plan.
  • Arrange timely risk reviews with risk owners and project team members as required, normally conducted weekly to a pre-planned schedule arranged with the project manager.
  • Monitor and analyse event risks compared to the baseline analysis and evaluations.
  • Identify the stages through which the programme/project risk register should be developed.
  • Assess, using both qualitative and quantitative techniques, the threats, opportunities, probability and impact of the identified risks.
  • Identify, plan and monitor, with the Project Manager, Cost Estimator, Cost Engineer and Planning Engineer, mitigation measures, reviewing risks as they are mitigated, and updating the risk plan and register accordingly.
  • Develop and report risk status to the Project Manager, based upon the risk strategy priorities, thereby enabling proactive decision making to take place.
  • Report an accurate and current event risk position to the Cost Engineer.
About you

Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of developing a risk strategy and plan and experience of producing and maintaining risk registers across a range of project areas.
Skills
  • Proficient in the use of risk tools and techniques
  • Technical aptitude with a high level of understanding of project management, engineering, regulatory, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning activities and their relation to project costs
  • An analytical bias with the ability to provide solutions to issues.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentational skills with a high level of analytical and numerate skills.
  • Strong MS excel skills and a working knowledge of MS Word and Power Point. Experience in the use of Estimating software packages.
  • Exhibits a strong awareness of the level of interaction required with the project team function to support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Able to develop strong internal and external relationships and able to deliver against stakeholder expectations.
  • Self motivated with good interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
  • Good attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentational skills.
  • Able to use initiative.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the demands of the project, where appropriate, while maintaining the procedural and quality requirements of EDF Energy.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of HNC/HND ideally in an Engineering discipline or relevant experience.
  • Professional membership of an appropriate institution desirable (e.g. ACostE, APM or equivalent).
Experience
  • Significant experience in managing risk on large and/or complex projects.
  • Relevant risk management and control experience within a highly regulated multi discipline Engineering Project Management organisation.
