Job Purpose: 

To work with strategic Met Office programmes to enable them to achieve and maintain the appropriate level of Cyber Security to meet the Met Office’s legal, regulatory and customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

1.To drive security improvements throughout the Met Office so it meets its business requirements, mitigate risks, complies with the Met Offices cyber security policies and balances the cyber security risks against the cost of countermeasures.

2.To provide pragmatic expert information security advice and guidance to the Met Office change activities to enable them to achieve and maintain the Met Office’s Cyber Security Objectives

3.To work with other governance functions across the Met Office and our external strategic stakeholders to develop, introduce, improve and embed cyber security into business processes and methodologies.

4.To provide expertise to improve and enhance the Cyber Security strategy in light of emerging technological developments.

5.To keep up-to-date with all aspects of Cyber Security and where there is potential benefit to the Met Office research, evaluate and pilot.

6.Ability to lead and inspire teams.


Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

1.A relevant Cyber Security or IT degree or Cyber Security professional qualification e.g. CISSP, Certified Professional (CCP).

2.Proven experience working as a Cyber Security professional with a thorough knowledge and experience of meeting MoD standards at both OFFICIAL and SECRET and experience of working within diverse business environment.

3. Capable of making and guiding effective decisions on risk, explaining clearly how the recommendations have been reached. Able to make recommendations proportionate to the level of risk and technical complexity.

4.Proven experience of security architecture and design.  

5.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, inform, engage and influence at all levels of the organisation and the wider Government Cyber Security community.  

6.Able to work with senior business and technology stakeholders to influence their understanding of Cyber Security implications and to provide pragmatic advice.

7.Ability to lead and inspire teams.


Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

1.Evidence of implementing changes in working practices.

2.Experience with a cloud platform, e.g. Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure.

3.Experience of working in an Agile environment.
