We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced communicator to join our team in the South East to help promote and protect the reputation of the NHS in the region.

You will work as part of a fast-paced and dynamic team, reporting to the Deputy Head of Regional Communications. As a senior communications and engagement manager you will work on our proactive and reactive media handling, working directly with journalists on issues supporting the work of NHS England and NHS Improvement as well as supporting NHS communications teams across the region with media handling.

You should have excellent writing skills and experience of delivering high-quality communications for different audiences particularly working with the media. You will need to build and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work with communications colleagues across the six health and care systems in the South East. With experience in implementing and evaluating proactive media campaigns and dealing with high pressure environment of handling reactive media enquiries, as well as developing and implementing a social media strategy , your working day will be varied with competing deadlines, so you'll need to be efficient, well organised and confident working independently. As well as being able to use your own initiative and develop new ideas, you will also enjoy working as part of a team, committed to enhancing communications that make a difference to patients, the public and the health and care sector.

Location: London (Wellington House), Horley (York House), Reading (Premier House), Oxford (Jubilee House) or Southampton (Oakley Road).

The successful candidate has the option for their formal office base to be at one of our regional offices, although due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the team is currently working remotely. This will be reviewed in the new year. However, the team covers the whole of the South East and when appropriate, there will be an occasional requirement to travel to other locations within the region.
