The Role / Position Overview

The team is newly formed and there is a huge scope to shape not just the technology but culture and product development process too.

In FT Professional we're creating a new suite of digital products that will position the FT as a frontrunner and innovator in the industry. By harnessing the potential of FT content and data we will deliver unique value for our customers and open new revenue streams for the organization.

We are looking for Senior Engineers to join the team.

We’re a dynamic team with strong execution bias and start-up like culture.  The team is newly formed and there is a huge scope to shape not just the technology but culture and product development process too. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing team to shape the future of the media industry.

What you’ll work on

  • Work as part of a small team focused on rapid product development with data at the heart of everything you do

  • Rapid prototyping of capabilities to support exploration of new data and ideas, and building products quickly.

  • Implement effective data tracking with an open mind about the technologies being used.

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience using the wide range of technologies and patterns required to build modern web products and services: from CDNs, networking, cloud infrastructure and databases through to performance tuning and optimisation

  • Be a self starter, able to make decisions for themselves

  • Understand the importance of diversity and equality in a well functioning team

Desirable skills and experience 

  • An understanding of modern front-end development

  • Experience of working with tools, processes and databases typically associated with storing, manipulating, and querying large sets of content

  • An understanding on content metadata and the application of techniques such as natural language processing

  • Have built software using the 12 factor methodology

  • You have an understanding of design and UX principles

  • Rich understanding of web technologies, their strengths and weaknesses, and their impact on users as performance and accessibility

  • Instrumenting for observability and operability

  • Experience with the tooling, monitoring, and engineering that enables highly fault tolerant systems in cloud environments
