The opportunity

Project: Building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. The £19bn project is due to start generating electricity in 2026 and is currently the largest construction project in Europe.

Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, this project will make a major contribution to the UK's move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year over its 60-year lifespan.

The senior logistics manager reports directly to the site operations marine service manager and is responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of marine abnormal indivisible loads (AILs) logistics activities across multiple marine facilities. The role is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of marine operations in a singular but substantial support service in accordance with all safety, quality time and cost parameters to meet the needs of the construction project. The role will provide technical input and advice for their scope of work - and may be involved in all stages of the procurement, planning, implementation and operation of their key contract area.

The senior logistics manager will be responsible for developing, reviewing and amending policies and procedures that underpin strategy within their work area, and may also be called upon to help prepare detailed specifications, in support of the procurement process.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the day-to-day provision of a critical site support service to a construction workforce of circa 5,600.
  • Managing and being directly responsible for a specific service contract valued at circa £80m [full project lifecycle].
  • Ensuring all statutory, regulatory and site controls are complied with.
  • Forming effective relationships with their service contract partner and champion clarity, respect, positivity, humility and integrity.
  • Ensuring the contract partners team are fully competent to perform their assigned roles - and that any shortfalls are reported to the service manager without delay.
  • Developing and implementing marine shared services plans to ensure service delivery meets or exceeds the expectations and project work schedule.
  • Ensuring early intervention to avoid any escalation of issues affecting service delivery by working in the spirit of a one-team approach.
About you

You have a degree standard education in a related subject. You have specialist experience in marine port operations with a deep logistics background. You have specialist experience in a port operation for delivery of waterborne abnormal indivisible loads. You have specialist experience in heavy haulage transport and freight forwarding. You have experience within a large project environment.

You have experience in marine infrastructure maintenance. You have experience in marine construction. You have experience working with and developing budgets. You have management or leadership experience in a service lead environment.

You are digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams. You have experience of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility in a similar regulated environment in a construction or consultancy background and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
