Senior Product Designer

Posted: 21 Sep 2020 Closes: 28 Dec 2020
London (FT) Competitive
Permanent & Full-time JR005499

We are looking for a talented Senior Product Designer, to join our team in a fast and iterative product environment. The role will involve end to end creation of products and features - from ideation into concepting, to testing and final delivery, crafting a quality experience for our digital products across web and mobile devices.

Life at the FT is far from suits and stock markets. You’ll be working with a positive, switched-on team to solve challenges and make great things happen. Our culture is welcoming and your unique perspective will help us build better products and an even better team.

We hire for team betterment and diverse perspectives. We also make it a priority to provide flexible conditions for everyone, including flexible working hours.

Our Senior Product Designers can lean towards UX or UI but what we are looking for is solid thinkers with quality design skills who can demonstrate a clear problem solving process based around the needs of users.

What you’ll be doing…

Immersing yourself in data and research - You will work alongside our Research team for creating briefs for user research and testing, as well as digging into our data with our Analysts to surface journeys and behaviours.

Analysis and reviews - By performing competitor and comparator analysis, reviewing existing journeys and features, you will explore ways of improving and innovating our experience.

Empathising with our readers - You will approach your work with the users needs as a priority. To put yourself into their shoes, you will create flows, journeys and empathy maps that bring our users' needs and pain points to life.

Running workshops and sessions to generate ideas - You will be running and facilitating workshops and design sprints with cross functional teams, ensuring we generate the strongest ideas.

Concepting and exploring - You will take loose ideas, then explore and develop them into multiple concepts. You will share your early ideas with your team and continually seek feedback.

Testing and learning fast - Working with researchers to create scripts, you will be getting your concepts in front of users and seeking valuable feedback for you to learn from and iterate your designs. A/B testing.

Crafting final designs - Finishing and delivering high quality designs that reflect the gold standard of the FT’s journalism.

This role will be right for you if…

You are truly collaborative — We really praise collaboration within our team, and believe this is a core requirement for this role. You’ll be working with a cross functional team, made up of a Product Manager, Delivery Lead, Researchers and Engineers, as well as embracing feedback and ideas from all members of the Product Design team and other stakeholders.

You welcome critique— We promote a culture of healthy feedback and trust at the FT. You actively seek feedback and are open to iterating based on the opinions of your peers.

You make things that are useful for your customers - You design for the needs and behaviours of users, not to make something look great for yourself.

You are a creative problem solver with an eye for detail and accuracy.

You are enthusiastic and eager to learn. You don’t think you’re a finished product and want to always keep improving your skills and techniques. We’ll help you fill in any gaps and we’re committed to helping you grow as a practitioner and we work together as a team.

You’re a great communicator, this is a crucial part of what you’ll do so you need to understand how to present your thinking to stakeholders.

You love working with a team of friendly designers. If all of this sounds like you, we’d love you to come and join the team.
