The HS2 Main Civils Contracts include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The first 16 months of the project will involve detailed design, pricing and building up target cost, with work on site likely to start in early 2020.

Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM driven), SCL tunnels/adits, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, utilities diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.

Security Vetting: HS2 requires SCS to undertake security vetting on all staff to the UK Government Baseline Personal Security Standard. All successful candidates will be subject to this vetting procedure as part of the on-boarding process.
What will I be doing?

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the Commercial Design team on our HS2 Main Works Contract.

About the role:

As Senior Quantity Surveyor you will assist with the management of commercial activities associated with the delivery of the detailed design on the HS2 MWCC within the project environment and with a focus on change management. You will be involved with all aspects of the project lifecycle, seeking to minimise the costs of the project and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality in accordance with contract and Customer's and/or Contract Leader expectations. As Senior Quantity Surveyor you may be expected to work independently or under the direction of and reporting a more senior commercial designation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking the efficient and effective management and issuing of accurate, timely and compliant notices and correspondence;
  • Ensuring contractual and commercial risks and opportunities are identified to the Contract Leader
  • Preparation and agreement of applications for payment or the assessment & preparation of payment certificates.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly progress valuations and claims for work completed.
  • Interfacing with Customer's commercial and project teams
  • Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and Contract Leader Reports
  • Review value management and advise on Risk management
  • Prepare supply chain enquiries, negotiate, administer and finalise / close out supply chain contracts.
  • Plan and implement change management and cost control
  • Provide contractual advice to the project / site team as and when appropriate
  • Maintaining awareness of the different construction contracts in current use
  • Understanding the implications of health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project Manager

There is a significant amount of change on the project involving design which means that the design change management team needs to grow. While you may therefore be involved in the above aspects of commercial management, in design or on the wider project, the specific role will be in design change management where you will be working as part of a change management team. You will be required to provide contractual reasoning to support change, evaluate the change and the impact of the change upon the design price and programme which may understanding and evaluating technical change and the impact thereof.

Essential Skills:
  • The ability to function as a member of an integrated Client / Contractor team;
  • Excellent communication skills and Team Player;
  • Contractual awareness and understanding

Required Experience:
  • Design and Build contract
  • Contract administration
  • Sub-contract procurement
  • Management of sub-contracts with a significant programme importance and value
  • Change management experience - specifically managing change that is technically challenging
  • NEC Option C
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying

  • Experience and or an appreciation and understanding of the design process
