We make sure we know what counts as success and we focus on getting it done. Our Tax team is looking to hire a Senior Tax Manager to join the team.

The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for:

  • Use knowledge and expertise to support investment projects and international charitable funding structures by advising on structuring and opportunities to optimise UK and foreign tax costs

  • Review and develop new procedures to optimise foreign tax costs.

  • The administration and co-ordination of all foreign compliance matters, including filing returns, liaising with agents and claims for tax reliefs as appropriate and in a timely manner.

  • Manage the collation of data for and review of compliance work carried out by external service providers and manage their deliverables and service.

  • Prepare tax computations, calculations of gift aid, and filing UK tax returns for the investment activities.

  • Co-ordinate tax input to the Financial Statements, financial planning and budgeting processes with the wider Finance Team

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and ensure agreed deadlines are met. Ensure ongoing communication with stakeholders and clear reasons are provided for advice given.

  • Liaise with HMRC staff regarding projects and compliance matters and maintain a good working relationship with them.

  • Work with external stakeholders to ensure that Wellcome complies with HMRC regulations, which will include liaising with third parties, for example Wellcome's custodian, investment managers, advisors, universities and grant claimants

Experience & Skills

  • Broad international and UK tax planning experience gained through working for a professional accountancy firm or global commercial group

  • Significant experience of international tax compliance.

  • Ability to research issues and present clear conclusions with recommendations for a range of audiences that can inform business decisions

  • Ability to explain to colleagues across Wellcome tax matters and the impact tax can have on budgets and outcomes both in writing and verbally

  • Exemplary understanding of tax principles in UK and internationally and strong working knowledge of tax law, practice and guidance.

  • Demonstrable ability to recommend innovative solutions to complex problems with a clear thought process.

Education & Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant ACA or ACCA or Member of Chartered Institute of Taxation or equivalent

  • Ability to operate at all levels of the organisation and with individuals of varying tax awareness.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise, take initiative and work to deadlines.
