Role & Department


Direct to Consumer is the home of the platform that powers the ITV Hub and Britbox UK. Last year the Hub served over 1.8 billion videos to 28 million users across 29 platforms including Amazon Fire, Xbox, Android and iOS devices to name but a few. We’re constantly expanding with year on year video delivery increasing by 23%.


Britbox was launched in December 2019 and  is ITV’s joint venture with the BBC and other content partners, that aims to deliver a best in class subscription video service for great British content - all powered by technology battle tested on the Hub.


We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test within ITV Direct to Consumer. The role is based at our Gray’s Inn Road office in London.


The role-holder will have a good background in the software development lifecycle and experience with test automation in a continuous integration environment. The role will focus on the design and implementation of test suites and automated testing solutions across ITV online, mobile and internet connected television apps.


We are looking for people who are passionate about delivering quality software, keen to learn new technologies and would like to help shape the future of online broadcasting.


What You’ll Do


Working as an embedded tester in the ITV News team you will:


      Plan and influence the testing of the ITV News website, mobile apps and back end systems with a heavy focus on automated regression testing

      Build and optimise the software deployment pipeline using continuous integration tools

      Pair with stakeholders to do business analysis, write acceptance criteria and document test plans

      Create high quality, maintainable test code

      Carry out exploratory, non-functional and security testing where required

      Prioritise and document defects with enough detail to reproduce

      Contribute to and improve the end to end test strategy for the team and wider department

      Proactively improve your skills and the QA process through on the job training, code reviews, conferences and self-learning


What You’ll Bring


We are looking for candidates with the following skills:


      Proficiency in the Ruby programming language and its use within test automation frameworks

      Significant technical testing experience using Selenium Webdriver

      Mobile application testing using Appium

      Experience with common continuous integration tools (Git, Jenkins, Puppet)

      Knowledge of common test design patterns such as the Page Object Model

      Knowledge and understanding of web technologies (React, HTML, CSS, HTTP)

      An understanding of agile software engineering principles

      Experience with major internet browsers and browser debugging tools

      Knowledge of Unix based operating systems and common command line tools

      A passion for testing and a willingness to bring new ideas
