DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Cambridge UK based Simulation and Experimentation (SimEx) team is looking for an experienced and passionate Software Development Manager to join our fast-paced and stimulating environment, to help invent the future of retail with research science and technology.

The SimEx team is part of Amazon's Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization. The charter of SCOT is to maximize Amazon's return on our inventory investment in terms of free cash flow and customer satisfaction. We accomplish this by applying simulation, advanced statistical methods, and empirical analysis to predict and evaluate Amazon's inventory needs. The SimEx team builds systems that allow SCOT to answer "what if?" questions about our supply chain, our fulfillment network, and our customers. In summary, SimEx helps Amazon rapidly experiment with new ideas and make data-driven decisions under uncertainty.

As an SDM on the SimEx team, you will lead a team of software engineers who work with machine learning and data scientists, researchers and product managers, and with other teams to design, develop and operate innovative solutions that form the backbone of the simulation and experimentation systems that drive Amazon's retail business forward. These systems cover a broad range of solutions which include front-ends, workflows, advanced mathematical models, and data platforms, built using latest technology frameworks and AWS. You will have the opportunity to work with and contribute to thought-leading ML projects like the open source Emukit (https://github.com/amzn/emukit) - a Python-based toolbox of various methods in uncertainty quantification and statistical emulation: multi-fidelity, experimental design, Bayesian optimization, Bayesian quadrature and more.

Successful outstanding candidates will bring strong technical and analytical abilities, combined with a passion for delivering results for customers, internal and external. This role requires a high degree of ownership, and a drive to solve some of the most challenging data and engineering problems in retail.

In the role you will:
· Deliver scalable machine learning and causal models as well for decision-making across diverse innovation products and help integrate them into production systems
· Champion a culture of innovation, engineering rigor and operational efficiency in the organization
· Build products from the ground up
· Hire, grow, mentor high-caliber engineers and work with a strong team of collaborators, with backgrounds in machine learning, statistics and computer science
