Main purpose of the role:

To design, deliver, and exploit technology solutions to enable and differentiate Gowling WLG's business:

• Develop and lead on technology and process solution design

• Translate business requirements into technology and process solutions

• Facilitate the delivery of solutions to realise the required business outcomes

• Provide subject matter knowledge across a broad range of technologies and technology concepts

• Create architectural documentation to a high standard

• Lead architectural governance and decision making for technology strategy and standards

• Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, both internally and with third parties

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Work with other architects, subject matter experts, and operational and information security peers to develop, deliver, and govern solutions across a range of business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities, and business requirements

§ Provide consultancy support to projects to ensure projects are aligned with the enterprise technology strategy

§ Document and present solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders

§ Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the IT Department and to exploit existing investment in technology to improve return on investment, mitigate risk, and progress strategic business outcomes

§ Develop metrics, reports, and operational models to assure the performance, stability, and security of solutions

§ Create high-level implementation and migration plans to support delivery planning, budget planning, and resource planning

§ Work with business customers to understand their business objectives, requirements, and strategic ambitions

§ Understand technology trends and the technology industry, identify opportunities for innovation, and drive a roadmap of continuous improvement and innovation.

§ Define principles, guidelines, standards, and reusable solution patterns that align to the enterprise technology strategy

§ Knowledge transfer to technical and operations resources

§ Work with the enterprise architect on the architectural maturity of the firm, the delivery lifecycle, enterprise business context, and metrics to measure and demonstrate enterprise technology value.

§ Work with subject matter experts on their technology roadmaps to ensure alignment with the enterprise technology strategy

§ Work with external providers to resolve priority issues and co-ordinate internal technical, security, and operations teams, as required, to ensure the impact on business operations are minimised and mitigated during priority incidents.

§ Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing

§ Collaborate with business stakeholders, as needed, to fulfil the responsibilities defined above

Qualifications:

Key Skills and Experience:

§ Designing solutions that incorporate a range of infrastructure, application, middleware, and security technologies, ideally within the legal or other professional services sector with a global component

§ Strong planning and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail

§ A breadth of knowledge across strategic and emerging technology trends and experience of realising business value from new technologies

§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a non-technical audience

§ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to absorb new information quickly

§ Technology leadership and decision-making within an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment

§ Working autonomously and under pressure, prioritising competing workloads, managing stakeholders (internal management stakeholders, customers, third parties, and others)

§ Working in a collaborative team environment, supporting a broad community of colleagues, managers, and teams across an enterprise

§ Flexible and adaptable approach with a strong customer and business focus
