Speech and Language Therapist
This is a fixed term contract for 3 years
Digital Technology is transformational, however, there is a danger that people with disability could miss out. We aim to ensure that assistive technology transforms the lives of people with disabilities. In this role you will be involved in our exciting and pioneering project at Hill House which is at the forefront of that commitment.
About the role
Alongside the more traditional part of your role - being responsible for the implementation and continuation of speech and language therapy programmes for our residents with complex disabilities, you will also lead on the assessment, diagnosis and formulation of treatment plans using a range of speech and language communication needs using AAC devices and assistive technology, This pioneering project will ensure appropriate innovative interventions that will generate qualitative data to support each individual to reach their goals. This 3 year project will enable us to bring significant benefits to our residents, quantify them, and then, through our learning from this project, ensure maximum benefits for many others in the future.
At Leonard Cheshire we aim to empower disabled people to live learn and work in the manner they choose. This ground-breaking three-year project will harness the latest in assistive technology to give people a voice and options. Almost all the 24 residents have complex physical and communication difficulties as well as physical support needs. Staff time is mostly consumed with personal care support and critical safety tasks. Before residents can make choices about how to spend their day, they face multiple barriers. This project provides a suite of technological devices to fully integrate heath, communications and environmental control into one system. The suite includes MySense, wearable Assistive Technology that generates qualitative data to support every individual to reach their goals, as well as reducing time spent on routine health checks.
You will be qualified and registered as a practicing Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC.
You will bring thorough and up-to-date knowledge of speech and language therapy theory and best practice and have previous experience in a range of clinical skills with an emphasis on neurological rehabilitation and the management of disability.
You will demonstrate an empathetic and caring approach, ensuring that dignity and respect is maintained, and you will share the values and ethos of Leonard Cheshire.
We are not expecting you to come with previous experience of a unique project of this nature. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your learning and expertise while working on this project, and therefore enhance your skills for the future.
Leonard Cheshire is going through a significant period of transformation, so this is a particularly exciting time to join our charity.
