Part-time Switchboard Operator, Westmorland General Hospital

We are looking to recruit an additional member of staff to work on a part-time basis on a busy switchboard at the Westmorland General Hospital. The switchboard is a 24 hour service provided 7 days a week

The successful applicant will be expected to cover an average of 2 shifts per week, mornings and afternoons. Contracted hours are 14 per week. Shift days do vary but they are based on a regular pattern. Morning shift hours are 0800 to 1530hrs and, afternoons run from between 1515hrs to 2145hrs.

The successful candidate will also be required to assist with covering periods of absence which in general will be planned but may also be at short notice. This may also include occasional night cover.

Allowances are paid for night and weekend working

The role involves working with colleagues responding to and directing internal and external telephone calls, use of the hospital paging systems, responding to emergency calls and, ensuring rota information is kept up to date.

The person appointed will have excellent verbal skills, be calm, confident and flexible and will have a helpful and sympathetic manner.

Training, covering day, night and weekend periods is provided.
