The Role / Position Overview

We are looking for someone to develop the already excellent Network team, supporting the team on the journey to infrastructure as code and a cloud only world.  Someone who is passionate about delivering an exceptional service in an ever-changing, dynamic, fun and friendly environment, where taking the initiative and trying new things is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • All things network

  • Developing a highly productive and collaborative team

  • Delivering performant, highly available and secure access to services that are consumed by our FT colleagues

Role Overview:

We are constantly pushing the boundaries in the quality of the network services that support our internal users, always looking for better, simpler and more effective ways of delivery in an ever-changing environment. One of the key facets of this role is supporting the wider team to becoming more code focused and accelerating the move to Infrastructure-as-code.

As an important member of the Product and Technology organisation, you will contribute to the company-wide strategies and frameworks and ensure all network components adhere to security standards. Alongside with owning the network infrastructure services, you will also be overseeing the development of the network team, providing career paths, learning opportunities and encouraging their general progression.

This role has a wide remit and includes owning, architecting and delivering scalable, secure, and highly available network services and products for our internal customers. Acting as the technology lead and all that entails, means that you have a background of implementing solutions to high engineering standards and can communicate clearly to peers and colleagues.

On a daily basis, the role covers the monitoring and supporting all network services in our global offices and data centres, connectivity into Cloud Services, delivering continual service improvement of all network services and troubleshooting problem areas as required, providing in depth support to both support and project teams. You will be proactively managing and administer systems that relate to network management, specifically monitoring and analysis tools.

You will also take responsibility for exposing the performance metrics and alerting on the global networks for all internal users to consume, ensuring changes and new products are being delivered with customers in mind and not just focused on feature delivery.

Collaboration with our customers is encouraged to understand their experience of the services we provide and then using that to improve and shape new products and services. Active involvement in all stages of planning of initiatives and preparing and presenting product demos at the fortnightly program showcases will help develop your interpersonal skills.

Required Skills / Experience

  • Leading and developing a team of Network Engineers

  • Highly capable in managing and troubleshooting in a Cisco and Checkpoint world, with solid switching and routing skills.

  • Expertise in maximising performance and availability of wireless networking

  • Experience with Cloud Computing e.g. IaaS, PaaS, SaaS etc, specifically hands on experience with AWS

  • Demostrable delivery of network performance metrics and alerting

  • Focus on performance, accessibility, security and reliability

  • Understanding of agile development and its core principles

  • Good command of written and spoken English.

These are handy if you have some knowledge… but don't be put off if you don't…

  • Software-Defined Networking

  • Experience working with monitoring and visibility tools (e.g. Solarwinds, Graphite/Grafana, Splunk or Zabbix)
