An exciting opportunity has arisen within Southampton Children's Hospital's G3 orthopaedic and trauma unit for a permanent full time highly motivated, dedicated ward administrator.


G3 is a 20 bedded unit catering for those who require orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation; including specialist spinal surgery, and major trauma patients. The ward has 2 high dependency beds to support children undergoing spinal surgery. G3 cares for babies, children and young people up to the age of 18. It also supports a number of medical patients, particularly over busy winter months, giving staff access to many different experiences and breadth of skills. The unit accepts tertiary referrals from across the Wessex network, as well as from the Channel Islands and is part of the UHS Paediatric Trauma Centre, the only one of the south coast.

The unit works closely with a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, clinical facilitators, dietitians, OT's and Physiotherapists.


Our ward clerks are central to the effective functioning of the service, and are located at the heart of the unit. It is a varied role, and you will support families going through often challenging times as well as their visitors, and a large team of nurses, doctors and other staff.

You will carry out a range of general administration tasks; answering telephone queries, ordering stationery, arranging appointments and working with a number of hospital IT systems including medical records.


The successful candidate will be:

- Able to prioritise and manage a large and conflicting workload.

- Able to work under pressure.

- Organised, with good interpersonal skills and excellent telephone/communication skills
