Skanska North Somerset are currently looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers including CPC to work on the Highways Maintenance contract in North Somerset for the winter season, from November 2020 until April 2021 as Winter Maintenance drivers. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero hours contract basis.

Your role will be:
  • To drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season, being allocated to a rota within the North Somerset area.
  • To be on standby alternate weeks i.e. one week on standby followed by one week off throughout the winter maintenance season.
  • To undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service.
  • To arrive at the Highways Depot, Sandford, BS25 5RJ within 60 minutes from receiving the gritting instruction

We are looking for:
  • A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential
  • A valid Winter Maintenance qualification or experience. If, however, training is required, training for the City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for September/October 2020 and the above mentioned temporary contract will be extended to cover this.

Shifts and Pay Rates:

Drivers must commit to being on standby alternate weeks for the duration of the service. When you are on Standby, you can be called out at any time to undertake a grit run.

Pay rate for standby for this season will be £100/week. An agreed lump sum will be paid for each gritting run, to cover anything up to 4hrs. For every additional hour in exceptional circumstances an hourly rate will be paid. Enhanced pay will be agreed for bank holidays.
