Job Purpose
North TV News Operations is a team of approximately 60 people who provide a range of technical and craft services to BBC News, BBC England and Digital productions, based at MediaCityUK. We work as a creative, multiskilled team across an exciting and wide range of output including BBC Breakfast, BBC North West Tonight and BBC News. The team provides the gallery and studio team for BBC Breakfast every day of the year as well as regularly working across the country on location and outside broadcasts. We also output four regional programmes for North West Tonight every weekday, as well as weekend output. Work is varied, lively and great fun.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
We are looking to recruit a Senior Technical Operator into our team to work on our flagship programmes. As this is a multiskilled role you might have skills including:
• Gallery operational skills, for example Lighting, Technical Management or studio camera operations.
• Gallery and/or location sound operations
• Editing skills in a suite. FCP / Quantel knowledge is an advantage
• Newswire / hub operations
• PSC / ENG camera operations on location
All of our team are expected to be multi-skilled and to deliver a number of roles in the operation. This may include gallery and studio operations; directing, floor management, manual and robotic camera control, communications and circuit co-ordination. It may also include picture editing, media hub, location shoot-editing and live vehicle operation. As a Senior Technical Operator we will look to increase your existing skills with training and mentoring.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
You will be familiar with working in a broadcast environment on live programming often in a pressurised situation. You will be comfortable working in a fast-moving creative environment, demonstrating the appropriate level of resilience, as well as being able to communicate clearly and assertively. You'll be passionate about working on live news output and show a willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly. A good understanding of health and safety issues and best practice is important.
You'll be willing to accept a varied shift pattern which includes early and late shifts, overnights, as well as regular weekend working.
