Team Overview

This role is part of an application development function within Aladdin Engineering - Enterprise Engineering team within BlackRock's powerful asset management platform. Members of our team have a consistent track record of solving some of the firms most difficult problems in a scalable, resilient, and secure manner. We are passionate about solving difficult problems through technology and are focused on utilizing the cloud services to solve large scale challenges. We collaboratively build the next generation of technology that changes the way information, people, and technology intersect for global investment firms.

The position

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer, passionate about building quality software and scaling technology to meet the needs of tomorrow. You will be part of Enterprise Engineering team, developing applications and systems for our stakeholders. You will participate in the continuous development, improvement and support of our production and staging/QA environments.

A successful candidate has:
  • A proven foundation in core Java and related technologies, with OO skills
  • Hands-on experience in Java/ Spring Framework/Sprint Boot
  • Prior experience in financial industry and/or insurance company is preferred.
  • Working experience on testing framework: JUnit, Cucumber
  • Database knowledge on database technologies: MS SQL, Sybase. Understanding of relational databases is a must.
  • A passion for building highly available, performant, and secure messaging systems that our clients can trust.
  • An education in computer science or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have and opportunities to learn:
  • Exposure to high scale distributed technology like Kafka, Ignite, Redis, Cassandra
  • Exposure to building microservices and APIs ideally with REST, Kafka or gRPC
  • Experience with DevOps and tools like Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of modern front-end frameworks such as Angular is a plus.
  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud services is beneficial.
  • Experience with Cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud
What are we looking for?
  • BS/master's degree in computer science, Engineering or in related field
  • 1 to 3 years' experience as Application development or similar position
  • Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Good understanding of Source Control, Bug Tracking, Scrum Management and Continuous Integration tools
  • Problem Solving skills.
  • Strong communication, time management, organization, attention to detail
  • Curiosity and drive to learn new things and build new solutions.
