Job Details

The role

As the senior editor you will ensure that Life & Arts maintains its reputation as the home of world-class writing and inspiring, thought-provoking - and sometimes mischievous - ideas while also helping to champion its digital transformation.

You will be expected to generate a diverse array of commissions for the main feature or "front" and for Lunch with the FT. You will seek to discover the best talent from within the FT, encouraging new writers to attempt the highest profile slots in L&A. You'll build close relationships with regular columnists and keep a close eye on the entire section, assessing and if necessary addressing the tone and subjects of the various sections.

Working with the FT Weekend editor and deputy editor, Life & Arts, you will demonstrate outstanding copy editing skills, experience working with a wide range of writers, close attention to detail and familiarity with producing a busy section of a weekly newspaper both in print and digitally. Duties will include coordinating a complex digital production schedule.

Key responsibilities:
  • Commission, edit and see through to publication a wide range of articles for FTW Life & Arts
  • Work closely with design, audience engagement and production team to deliver timely, accurate and beautiful pages digitally and in print
  • Generate ideas and work with writers to develop the most high profile pieces published weekly by FT Weekend

How we work

Our hybrid setup means staff are encouraged to come into the office 3 days a week.

Our office is located across the street from St. Paul's Cathedral and is easily accessible from all corners of London. There are the main train terminals such as Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Blackfriars, City Thameslink or Waterloo all situated within walking distance or there are several tube stations within a few mins walk such as Mansion House (District or Circle line), St. Paul's (Central line), Bank (Central or Waterloo & City line) or Barbican (Central, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines).
