Job Description

Background

Job Purpose

Working with the Estate Manager, this varied and busy role is responsible for providing professional advice for the effective management of the Met Office estate. This will involve a wide variety of tasks including rent reviews and lease renewal negotiations as well supporting the effective delivery of projects across a diverse property estate to enable the Met Office to successfully deliver its services to customers.  The role requires close liaison with colleagues and customers across the Met Office as well as other Government Departments and external professional bodies. To be considered for this position it is essential you have, or are working towards, an RICS accredited degree.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with the regular review of the estates strategy based on documented property portfolio to ensure effective decision making in Met Office estate matters.
  • Assist with the negotiation and resolution of any rating, planning, landlord and tenant matters to ensure the Met Office estate delivers best value to the organisation.
  • Assist with the acquisition and disposal of property, working with external advisors and customers to ensure the interests of the Met Office and value for money are maintained.
  • Ensure compliance liaising with technical specialists on legal and other obligations in relation to leasing and general estate matters and ensure all required legal documentation is in place and up to date.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of projects to ensure successful delivery.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
  1. Relevant (or working towards) RICS accredited degree (Commercial Real Estate or similar)
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of, or have experience in, Commercial Real Estate Management of a diverse property portfolio including knowledge of the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954
  3. An organised approach to work & proven ability to prioritise effectively and use your own initiative to achieve tasks amongst competing demands
  4. Customer focused and able to demonstrate excellent networking skills with the ability to build relationships effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  5. Good communication and negotiation skills with the ability to present conclusions and proposals clearly and concisely in writing and verbally
  6. Personal drive and desire to complete work in an effective manner
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
  1. A broad understanding of the nature, purpose, and structure of the Met Office
  2. Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
  3. Have commenced or are part way through the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence

For operational reasons this post will be based in Exeter.
