Main Purpose of the Job

A position has arisen for a professional proofreader to support the Real Estate Group. The position requires someone with a mature outlook with previous business experience. There is a need for self-motivation and an ability to work on their own initiative with little supervision. The proofreader will be required to concentrate for lengthy periods of time on repetitive tasks. A methodical approach and a keen eye for detail will be required as well as sound judgement and a strong command of the English language. Clear communication skills are essential in the form of handwriting and discussing recommendations/suggestions with fee earners of all levels.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To check the quality and integrity of our documents.
  • To read copy documents against each other to ensure that they contain all the agreed terms and conditions.
  • To check cross referencing and numbering to eradicate mistakes.
  • To spot any ambiguities and any problems with sense, spelling, punctuation, style and grammar.
  • To ensure that documents are presented in the correct housestyle.
  • To compare and contrast different documents with each other and to identify any discrepancies between them.
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by any Partner or the Practice Operations Manager
Key skills and experience

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Open and honest interpersonal skills.
  • Attended either the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) or Publishing Training Centre short form course (desirable).
  • Two years' professional office experience.
  • Ability to build good working relationships across the group Partners, fee earners and PAs with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other systems implemented by the firm.
  • Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, methodical, excellent attention to detail, flexible.

There will be a short proof reading test as part of the interview process for this role.
