Wellcome's mission is to improve health for everyone by helping great ideas in research to thrive. We've increased our focus on influencing others to achieve this mission, building on the strength of our independence and reputation for impactful solution-focused interventions.

The Policy team influences others to create an environment where research thrives and to ensure that the benefits of research reach people across the world quickly, by removing the barriers to its uptake. We have two parts of the team focused on our different stakeholders: Global and UK & EU. The Policy Manager will manage a small team through an exciting time for Wellcome, with the aim of defining and delivering our ambitious and rigorous projects to influence policy in the UK & EU, on issues such as science and Brexit, research investment and emerging technology.

You will be instrumental in ensuring your team delivers a blend of policy and advocacy work to achieve our goals and maximise our impact.

You will:
  • Work with Policy leadership to define ambitious objectives in policy and advocacy.
  • Deliver high-quality policy outputs, with clear ideas and solutions, and strong advocacy campaigns to ensure our solutions create change.
  • Lead, manage and motivate a small team to deliver these objectives within a sustained high-performance culture.
  • Lead in developing relationships with key policy organisations in the science and research sector.
  • Represent Wellcome externally on relevant issues, including participating in panel discussions and giving speeches and media interviews.
  • Manage priorities, budget and resources to deliver strong impacts from the team.

Wellcome encourages applications from all individuals who align with the organisation̢۪s values and vision, with experience from any relevant sector whether public, private or voluntary. Wellcome values talented people from all backgrounds who can help to make our vision a reality.

It is expected that you will have experience in policy and advocacy work in the UK or EU, and have worked with officials and political organisations in complex environments to deliver positive outcomes.

Further to this, you will be a fantastic team leader, with the ability to inspire the best in people to deliver and to develop their skills. You'll be an efficient project planner, able to coordinate and prioritise your team's work and support the Head of UK & EU Policy to do this across the wider UK & EU team.
