The WSP Rail Discipline provides engineering, design consultancy and specialist services to the rail industry. We are expanding our Rail Stations capability, building on our “best in class” reputation. We have a number of well-established Rail Stations Design Centres throughout the UK, and the teams in those centres are delivering a wide variety of complex and technically challenging projects around the country and overseas.

We work directly with High Speed 2, Network Rail and organisations such as TfL and TfGM, with contractors, TOCs, developers of rail freight facilities and other organisations engaged in the implementation of rail projects.

We have an opportunity for a highly experienced BIM Manager to join the Stations business in London to lead the development and implementation of BIM on recent Major HS2 project wins.

A typical week would include:

  • Working with our Technical Forum, Technical Leads and Project Managers to develop coherent design processes that maximises data exchange across multiple software platforms
  • Produce defined Project Plans for software data exchange protocols
  • Undertaking and supporting the preparation of various aspects of design on major and minor Rail Station improvement schemes, including non-rail side and Urban Realm and major civil engineering works.
  • Preparation of scheme designs and drawings, targeting 15% reduction in resourced inputs to achieve same design products.
  • Detailed design and the preparation of contract drawings and documents, produced independently or by other team members.
  • Interfacing with multi-disciplinary project teams, and driving BIM benefits at project level.
  • Value engineering and value management
  • Line Management and mentoring of BIM technicians

About You

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A HNC/HND (minimum) in Civil Engineering or with good and appropriate experience working on Rail and civil engineering design projects, preferably at tender and concept to detailed design stages
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel software, including writing macros to undertake complex or repetitive calculations, lookup and pivot tables, etc. Experience of VBA would be advantageous.
  • Fully familiar with multiple aspects of design, to include structures, MEP, Architectural finishes, Urban Realm, Highways, Environmental mitigation measures etc.
  • Fully conversant with multiple software platforms, including Bentley Microstation, Aecosim, and Projectwise
  • Experience of the management of off-shore BIM resources would be a valuable strength
  • Working toward chartered status with a relevant institution
