Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

The job is located on the Leckford Estate, the Waitrose Farm, in the Test Valley, Hampshire. The Processing Dairy Manager is responsible for a dedicated team of Partners responsible for receiving deliveries of > 100,000 litres per week of raw milk (organic cows’ milk and non-organic goats’ milk), pasteurising, bottling and dispatching it to Waitrose, ensuring excellence in food safety and processing efficiency at all times. The entire Leckford Estate is about 1,500 hectares in size and, as well as processing milk, the Estate produces mushrooms, apples, pears, grapes, cereals, oilseeds, milk and poultry primarily (and in many cases solely) for Waitrose. 

- Overall accountability for the safe and efficient operation of the MPU by: 
- Ensuring the right raw materials and packaging are in place to supply our customers 
- Maintaining a safe working environment 
- Line manage all dairy partners 
- There are sufficient Partners to carry out the roles and that they are equipped and trained for this 
- Selection and development of partners using Partnership personnel systems 
- Recording and submission of hours worked 
- Rota and holiday planning and authorisation 
- Communication internally and externally linked with the Estate and wider Partnership 
- Build relationships with suppliers and customers 
- Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards of all internal and external areas of the factory 
- Reporting and recording of any maintenance faults and issues and support rectification activities

Job Requirements

- A hands on approach to work with the MPU Partners to carry out the duties listed above
- Planning and scheduling process and production on daily / weekly / annual profiles 
- On site attendance of 39 hours per week and flexibility to support remotely out of hours 
- Reporting of all aspects of the operation including service, throughputs, wastage, labour
- Actively drive improvements in performance at the dairy

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Knowledge and practical experience of liquid food processing and packaging 
- HND or equivalent level of education in a related subject 
- HACCP training 
- Proven track record of managing individuals and teams 
- Leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment 
- Excellent numeracy and communication skills 
- Good IT skills 
- H&S in the workplace

Required desirable experience skills and qualifications

- Degree level training in food sciences 
- An aptitude for planning and production schedule modelling 
- Experience of coaching and developing teams
