Job Description

LEGAL & COMPLIANCE WORK EXPERIENCE

Channel 4’s Legal & Compliance team plays a key role in enabling our producers to make and broadcast the most challenging and creative programmes and online content. This award winning team is at the forefront of advising and defending Channel 4’s unique brand of programmes - from undercover investigations, to campaigning consumer journalism, to award winning documentaries and cutting-edge comedy across our portfolio of channel and platforms. We also work on lobbying on both legal and regulatory issues affecting our content, as well as training our producers and commissioners.

We are looking for people with a demonstrative passion for freedom of expression and a keen interest in a media law career to take part in our work experience programme from the 20th - 24th May. This opportunity is completely entry level, so we want people who have had no experience or very little experience in the industry. The week won't cost you a penny as we will cover your travel and accommodation if you are based outside of London as well as all food costs for the week. Please note you must be 18+ to apply for this opportunity.

If you think this is what you’re after then check out an example schedule below of what the week could look like for you if you are successful!

Day 1: Enjoy your first day with us at 4Talent introducing you to Channel 4 and thinking about what the week will look like for you.

Day 2, 3 & 4: You will be spending these 3 days with your Channel 4 department learning all about how they work. This will be time for you to ask questions, network and learn learn learn!

Day 5: You will spend your final day meeting with 4Talent to discuss what you have learnt during the week and how you can transfer these skills onto your CV, and then wrapping up any last minute bits with your department.

SELECTION PROCESS

We only have 20 Work Experience places available and will be selecting people based on your answers to the questions set and your preference of department.

We don’t conduct interviews to gain a place on our Work Experience scheme so if you are offered a place we’ll contact you via email by 3rd May.

If you do not hear anything on this date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful. Due to the high response expected for this opportunity, we will not be able to provide feedback on applications.

If you are not available for the week 20th-24th May please wait to apply for a future placement in 2019. Applications cannot be deferred.

ALTERNATIVE APPLICATION FORMATS

Alternative application formats: We want to make the process of applying for one of our opportunities right for you as an individual, so we are happy to consider alternative formats of the application form. For example, you could arrange a phone call with 4Talent for you to speak your answers and a member of the team can scribe, or if you’d like to create a five minute YouTube video/ voice recording, these are also options available. If you have a different alternative, we really welcome your suggestions to ensure you have a fair chance of applying.

Take a look at our access page for more information, which you’ll find by clicking here. If you would like to apply for an opportunity at 4Talent and we can do anything to make that process simpler for you, please email us at 4Talent@channel4.co.uk or call Yasmin Mehmet on 0207 306 5188.

Please note Channel 4 is a public service broadcaster and it does not (and cannot) make its own programmes. If you are looking for production experience, we recommend you apply for opportunities with an independent production company. A list of which can be found on this website www.theknowledgeonline.com
