As an Apprentice – Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), you will work to help prevent workplace accidents and injuries, as well as recognising and mitigating risks to protect HS2 and our staff. You will engage with all aspects of the organisation to support the embedment of our HS2 values, well-being strategy and policies.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will gain a recognised Level 3 qualification. You’ll also gain skills and experience that will set you up for an incredibly rewarding career. On completion of your apprenticeship you will be able to apply for:
Affiliate level membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment;
Technical level membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health;
About the role:
The Apprenticeship Programme will span over a period of two years, which will involve working at HS2 and studying at College.
Over the two years you will cover various topics including:
Identifying and assessing hazards;
How to advise and train staff about health and safety practices;
Risk assessment methods;
Techniques for recording and investigating workplace accidents.
To join us on an Apprenticeship Programme, you’ll need to have achieved or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C, including English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications.
You will have a keen interest in the HS2 project and you will find the idea of working on HS2 appealing. In turn, you will also be able to demonstrate:
The ability to organise your workload and meet agreed deadlines;
The ability to communicate with stakeholders at various levels within an organization;
The ability to build good working relationships with your colleagues and contacts across the organisation and outside with external partners;
The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
The ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
The Apprentice will be expected to demonstrate, at all times, behaviour aligned to HS2’s values of Integrity, Respect, Leadership and Safety.
It is expected that you will actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
