Job Description

At Heathrow, over 200,000 passengers pass through our terminals every single day, returning from overseas or flying out to destinations all around the world. As you can imagine, ensuring the safety and security of so many people is no simple matter. It takes a dedicated team with a host of different skills and backgrounds.

About the Role

There’s a lot more to being a Security Officer at Heathrow than you might think. It’s about offering the kind of first- class service that gets every journey off to a flying start. That means giving each passenger a warm welcome – and a great send off.  Treating them with empathy and understanding and doing everything possible to help them pass through the airport safely and smoothly.

Our Security Officers work as part of a multi-disciplined team who use the technology and training provided to make sure our safety processes are followed at all times. Your attention to detail is crucial as you’ll be responsible for screening all people and items that enter restricted areas and patrolling the airport to identify potential risks.

Rewards Package

Of course, providing great service brings job satisfaction. But you’ll also benefit from our generous rewards package, including a flexible shift allowance, potential for overtime, annual performance bonus, green car salary sacrifice scheme and childcare vouchers.

We offer a competitive starting salary of £23,152.74 which can increase annually in line with negotiated pay agreements and an opportunity to join our Share in Success scheme. Plus, you’ll discover a world of resources and prospects to help you keep developing your career.

To prepare you for taking on the role, you’ll undergo a four-week training period. The first two weeks are on a 09:00 17:00 Monday-Friday schedule, based at our head office at the airport. This is followed by two weeks of a training shift pattern to learn the ins and outs of our operation.

Shift Work

After your training has been completed, you’ll begin working the full-time shift pattern you’ve applied for.  Our full time opportunity could consist of earlies, lates or a core roster in any of our Terminals.

Our rosters follow a four days on, two days off cycle to enable our 24/7 operation. Once you’ve started, we’ll let you know which days you’re working, and the exact timings, a year in advance. Whether you want to work around your
family commitments, or just your own particular lifestyle, our rosters offer the opportunity to build a career at Heathrow.

Qualifications and Experience

As we provide full training in our procedures – you don’t need a security background to join us. What’s important is your natural ability to look after and keep safe people from all walks of life, from all corners of the globe. No matter where you come from or where you want to take your career, if you’ve got what it takes to make customers feel at home at Heathrow – you can help us to deliver the best passenger service in the world.

You will be able to read, write and speak fluent English, whilst additional language skills are advantageous. Our Security Officers are required by legislation to have full colour vision and the capability to appropriately perform a range of duties. It’s also important that you are physically fit as the role will require you to spend periods of time sitting, standing, bending and walking.

You will also be required to pass through a range of referencing and vetting checks, including a Criminal Record Check and Counter Terrorism Check.

Equal Opportunities

Our vision is to give passengers the best airport service in the world. We recognise that the only way to achieve this is by ensuring we attract diverse colleagues who are able to do their best work within an inclusive environment. As a company committed to diversity, all job applicants will receive equal treatment. As part of our commitment to equality we may from time to time use information provided by you for the purposes of diversity monitoring. All such information will be used on an anonymised basis.

If you meet our requirements, want to ensure safety and to deliver world-class service, apply to Heathrow today.

Our plans are ambitious ones. And our people equally so. That’s why we recognise and value the contribution that everyone makes. In return we offer great benefits. These include our employee assistance programme, pension,
healthcare and travel offers, plus a wide range of development opportunities to take your career further.
