This is a home based position based in London

We have an exciting opportunity for a Can Do Programme Coordinator in the London area, with particular focus on our new community locations in Southwark and Wandsworth. 'Can Do' is a community-based programme which supports young disabled people aged 16-35 to develop skills, take part in new experiences and build confidence and independence by participating in a variety of social action projects.

This varied role is an exciting challenge for someone keen to work in the charity sector and make a difference. You will build partnerships with London-based organisations in order to recruit groups of young people with additional needs. You will plan and deliver projects, working with groups of participants in a person-centred way on social action and community-based projects.  You will collaborate with other Leonard Cheshire programmes and services and will join a national team of home-based workers across the UK. You will report to the Senior Programme Coordinator.

We are looking for candidates who have a good knowledge of the London area, are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and have the motivation to make a difference. You will have experience of working with our target group, organising projects and delivering inclusive activities and events.  Knowledge of teaching, training or youth work is highly compatible with this role. You will be a confident, pro-active communicator who can build effective relationships both internally and externally, create successful new partnerships, promote the work of the programme and create opportunities for our participants.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support the programme to achieve positive outcomes for young people with additional needs in line with agreed project pathways and plans
  • Recruit participants to agreed targets each year and deliver the three pathways: One off or taster activities; Building Communities programme of 16 hours; and Steering Group
  • Build partnerships with local schools, colleges, disability groups and services, to promote the project and recruit groups of participants
  • Design and develop sessions, community activities and skills development workshops to meet the programme's outcomes
  • Support participants to complete relevant paperwork, including photographic and written evidence of achievements
  • Organise and present at promotional and networking events
  • Follow Can Do Theories of Change, Quality Management and Evaluation Frameworks
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested

Key Experience needed:

  • Experience of working with young people is essential
  • Experience of organising and delivering projects/events and building community links is essential
  • Experience of working with disabled people is desirable
  • Working knowledge of the London area is essential
  • Working knowledge of the boroughs of Southwark and Wandsworth is desirable
  • Good standard of education and IT literate
  • An engaging manner with the ability to build rapport with young people
  • Passion, enthusiasm and a real commitment to make a difference to people's lives
  • Good communication, interpersonal and team working skills
  • Be able to work unsupervised and on your own initiative, as well as part of a team
  • Own vehicle (essential)
  • A satisfactory disclosure check is required for this position
